Please ensure that your version of MySQL is greater than 4.1 and that your version of PHP is greater than 4.4.4 before upgrading.

= How to Upgrade from ePEARL Version 2 =

This document is for users who are upgrading from ePEARL version 2 to the LTK (which includes ePEARL version 3). If this is your first time installing you don't need this document. If you have already upgrade from ePEARL version 2 and want to upgrade the LTK, read the file called "ReadMe-How to upgrade the LTK"

== No Data will be Lost ==

When you upgrade ePEARL to the LTK student portfolios *will not* be lost or changed. All data that was present before the update will be present after the update.

== Step by Step ==

1. Download the latest version of the LTK from here:

 http://grover.concordia.ca/eportfolio/ltk_versions/

 *NOTE: LTK upgrades happen regularly. Only download the 
 latest version right before you update. If you've downloaded 
 it earlier, please make sure it is still the most recent.

2. Backup your current ePEARL installation. 
   
 - Rename the epearl folder to 'epearl_backup'
 
3. Unzip the latest version of the LTK and put it *next to* the 'epearl_backup' directory.
   
 - Make sure all the files and folders are under "ltk/" and not under "ltk/ltk/".

4. Copy the following files from 'epearl_backup' into 'ltk'. 

 - Copy 'epearl/images/schoolboard_en.jpg' to 'ltk/epearl/images/schoolboard_en.jpg'
 - Copy 'epearl/images/schoolboard_fr.jpg' to 'ltk/epearl/images/schoolboard_fr.jpg'
 NOTE: Make sure you put all copied files in the correct folders!
 NOTE: Do not copy any other files!
 NOTE: Yes, you want to overwrite any old files that have the same names.

5. Copy your database information and your portal login information.

 - Copy your database information from 'epearl_backup/db_config.php' to 'ltk/config.php'. The files will look a bit different.
 - Copy your portal login information from 'epearl_backup/portal_config.php' to 'ltk/portal_config.php'. The files will look a bit different.
 NOTE: Do not replace the new files with the old ones!

6. Open the LTK in a browser.  

Open a browser and navigate to the ltk. It will probably be at 'http://mysever.com/ltk/'. 

Database changes are needed and so you will be taken to LTK Setup. At the bottom of the page you will see a purple box with an "Upgrade Now" button. Click the button to upgrade. After upgrade is complete, click "Welcome to the LTK" to return to the login screen. Log in as the admin user to confirm that everything still works as expected.

7. Register the LTK.

When you are inside the admin environment you will see a red box asking you to register the LTK. Follow the registration link and enter the requested information. This information will be used to information you of updates.
